About text posts...

Hello! Kangai mun here, I'm just too lazy to change accounts at the moment. I've got a bit of a tl;dr to throw at you, sorry!

While I like the idea of the IM chat-system, it's turning out to be more troublesome in practice than it sounded, and I'll tell you why:

First of all, it's hard for anyone except the original poster to keep track of replies unless they're constantly refreshing the page. There's the option of subscribing to the thread, but an easily overlooked one.

Second, ICly (and in real life, when you think of it) people are more likely to bounce comments back and forth with one, maybe two other people at a time anyway, even if it is in chat format. So it'd be nice to just keep those conversations nested together. I'm sure you've seen chats where two or more conversations are happening at the same time inbetween each other?

Third, it makes posts that change or have multiple formats (such as a text conversation that turns into action) hard to work with? There was a post a couple weeks ago that had a text part and an action part and I just didn't bother with flat posting because it would get confusing with any action posts that were up.

This is just my opinion, but it might be more practical to just have normal threads, and then maybe emphasize that there are no filters and encourage threadjacking as a result of that? I'm not demanding a change, but I just wanted you to think about it and see what others think.
